The legal regulation of holiday homes in the Islands debated in the ULPGC

Around thirty experts from the sector are meeting to analyse the situation of holiday rentals in the Archipelago at the 1st International Congress on Collaborative Economy, organised by the Tourism, Spatial Planning and Environment Research Group (TOTMA) of the ECOAQUA University Institute.

The Faculty of Legal Sciences (FCCJJ) of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) will host this week, on 8 and 9 November, the First International Congress on Collaborative Economy organized by the Research Group Tourism, Land Management and Environment (TOTMA) belonging to the University Institute ECOAQUA.

Around thirty experts will try to analyse, from a legal perspective, the problems that arise in the operation of holiday homes or tourist homes, in a meeting that will take into account the opinion of economists, lawyers, public administrations, professionals in the sector (hoteliers and digital platforms that allow the reservation of these accommodations), as well as the hosts or owners of these homes, through their associations.

This congress will open on Thursday 8 November at 9.30 a.m. in the Salón de Grados of the FCCJJ (Tafira Campus) and will close on Friday 9 at 1.30 p.m. with the participation of Rafael Robaina Romero, rector of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; and Felipe Afonso El Jaber, first deputy of the Deputy for Común.

In total, it is planned to hold six panels, which will deal with: 'Holiday homes Between the collaborative economy and commercial activity?', 'The issue of competence from the public and private perspective', 'Measures adopted for the regulation of housing for tourism use in different orders', 'Regulation of the operation of holiday homes from the perspective of the Administration, owners and professionals', 'Tax and administrative intervention on the operation of holiday homes' and 'Other controversial aspects of the operation of holiday homes.

TOTMA has been working on all these contents during the first year of execution of the R+D+I project "Dismantling the Collaborative Economy: Towards a new way of marketing products and services", which has been developed for the umbrella of the Ministry of Economy and Business (MINECO DER2017-85616-R).
